[57] Multiplex transmission equipment comprising an echo canceller for cancelling an echo from counterpart multiplex transmission equipment, mixed in a transmission signal input from an exchange side and characterized by the provision of: an encoding part for encoding a speech signal contained in said transmission signal output from the echo canceller and for demodulating a facsimile signal contained in said transmission signal; a multiplexing part for multiplexing the transmission signal encoded or demodulated by the encoding part and for outputting the multiplexed signal to said counterpart multiplex transmission equipment; and a signaling code detecting circuit for detecting a line signaling signal based on a change in a code of a specific time slot of the input signal from said exchange side; wherein the echo cancellation by said echo canceller is suspended when the line signaling signal is detected by said signaling code detecting circuit.
