SOUTH AUSTRALIA 1546 1855 QV 1d dark green, imperf, wmk large star. with large part of the special "CANCELLED" barred h/s applied by Perkins Bacon. (This being one of the so called "Ormond Hill Specimens" when in 1861 Perkins Bacon supplied 6 examples of many of their current & earlier issues to Rowland Hill's son-in-law. Despite the fact that all these stamps were obliterated with "CANCELLED" h/s, the Agent-General for the crown Colonies vehemently objected, & this led directly to Perkins Bacon losing their stamp printing contracts to Thomas De La Rue). F-VF, typical margins. SG 1(var) cat £12,000+ & especially desirable with such a large portion of the h/s. Great rarity as only 6 examples produced (only 3 recorded in private hands) & a most important South Australia "specimen" stamp. Ex Jaffe collection & certificate can be obtained on request.
